CTSS IPB University together with PRAKARSA Held a Public Lecture on Sustainable Finance
The Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences (CTSS) IPB University held a public lecture with PRAKARSA community, namely an organization-based research and policy advocacy institution. This activity was held on Tuesday, 12/12 at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.
This activity was carried out in order to provide knowledge to the public, including students and lecturers regarding the concept of sustainable finance, increasing awareness regarding the importance of economic and ecological reform for a just transition.
Chair of CTSS IPB University, Prof Damayanti Buchori said that this activity was spearheaded by PRAKARSA which has long been involved in sustainable finance issues, while CTSS is involved in the field of sustainability science.
“Sustainable finance is a very important part of sustainability, so this activity aims for us to learn more about sustainable finance and overall sustainable development,” she said.
She hoped that the discussions and dialogue that occur can provide knowledge to participants about the relationship between sustainability science and sustainable finance itself.
Executive Director of PRAKARSA and Coordinator of the Responsibank Indonesia Coalition, Ah Maftuchan, said this activity aims to discuss, plan and strive for good things for the development of society, the environment and especially a sustainable financial business climate.
“We intend to encourage the participation of civil society organizations to work on sustainable finance issues. “So in our work we always prioritize collaboration, a multi-party and multi-dimensional approach, we must continue to improve this in encouraging sustainable finance,” he said.
Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Cooperation and Alumni, Prof Iskandar Z Siregar, said that this activity was a very important aspect to continue learning, especially for students and lecturers.
“IPB University has an interest in modernizing the curriculum through sustainable finance, so that in the next five years our students will be more literate about sustainable financing,” said Prof Iskandar.
Present as Keynote Speech, Chair Executive of Banking Supervision – Financial Services Authority (OJK), Dian Ediana Rae who explained “Policy Direction and Strategy for Implementing Sustainable Finance”.
“Indonesia is encouraging sustainable finance to facilitate the transition
towards a low-carbon economy, enriched with high resolution
Sustainable finance, namely financing the transition towards economic growth
sustainable,” she said.
She continued, the large potential economic impact caused by climate change has become a catalyst for various Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) implementation practices by regulators and international standard developers throughout the world, including the financial services sector.
“Climate risk aspects are important in making financing decisions so that integrating climate-related risks into aspects of governance, business strategy and risk management frameworks is crucial but still prioritizing the precautionary principle,” she explained. (Lp) (IAAS/YMK)
