Commitment of PKSPL IPB University to Improve the Competence of Blue Carbon Assessors
IPB University’s Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) held another Blue Carbon Accounting Training (11-15/12) to improve the competence of blue carbon assessors. The event took place at IPB Baranangsiang Campus and field practice in Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta.
This training activity level 1 batch 3 is a basic training in calculating the amount of carbon in seagrass and mangrove ecosystems.
A number of experts from the fields of environment, coastal and marine were present as presenters for this activity. They included Arsyad Al Amin, Fery Kurniawan, Dadan Mulyana, Agustin Rustam, I Wayan Susi Dharmawan, Muhammad Ridwan and others. The event was also opened by the Head of PKSPL IPB University, Prof. Yonvitner.
According to Dadan Mulyana, one of the presenters related to blue carbon mangroves, mangroves have potential that is no less important than other forest areas.
“Primary and secondary mangroves are the largest carbon stores. To get high potential carbon accuracy, carbon accounting needs to be done, of course with the right method,” he explained.
For two days, participants will get a detailed understanding of blue carbon and carbon calculation theory. Then for the next three days, they will practice directly in the field how to do sampling in mangrove and seagrass ecosystems in Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta. Participants will also calculate the carbon from the field practice.
“This training activity on measuring and managing blue carbon ecosystems is important, because it provides a positive impact in terms of nature protection and restoration which can also pave the way for more blue economy and investment opportunities,” said Dadan. (*/Rz) (IAAS/ASB)
