PPLH IPB University Receives Research Grant from Osaka Gas Foundation of International Culture Exchange

Centre for Environmental Research (PPLH) IPB University received a research grant from Osaka Gas Foundation of International Culture Exchange (OGFICE). This research grant is intended for lecturers, researchers and students of IPB University.

Chairman of PPLH IPB University, Dr Yudi Setiawan symbolically received the research grant certificate submitted by the OGFICE representative in Indonesia, Mr Koji Kato. The handover took place in Pangrango Room, PPLH Building, IPB Dramaga Campus some time ago.

“Currently, there are 12 research proposals from lecturers and researchers at IPB University that are included in the OGFICE grant scheme. Based on the results of a rigorous selection, five proposals were accepted,” said Dr Yudi.

The proposals consist of various types of research topics categorised into basic and applied research. “In the future, long term research is also expected to be submitted to OGFICE,” he added.

Since 1992 or for 31 years, OGFICE has supported PPLH IPB University in conducting research. There have been quite a number of studies involving students from S1 to S3 levels. “It is hoped that these studies will further enhance the reputation of IPB University in the international arena,” he concluded.

Mr Koji Kato, the OGFICE representative, was pleased with the development of research in Indonesia, especially at IPB University. “PPLH IPB University has helped us a lot in selecting proposals and preparing the final report,” he explained.

According to him, applied research at IPB University should also be aimed at national needs. From his discussion with PPLH IPB University, he learnt what research topics should be developed.

For example, research related to handling pollution and monitoring air quality, disaster and so on. “PPLH IPB University plays an important role in strategic studies like this,” he added.

On this occasion, the research team from IPB University who received the OGFICE grant also explained the research themes that would be carried out. Here are the five research themes from OGFICE grantees:

  1. Application of carbon nanoparticles as a liquid waste absorbent material – Dr Istie Sekartining Rahayu (Department of Forest Products, Faculty of Forestry and Environment)
  2. Design of online monitoring system to anticipate global warming – Dr Muh Taufik (PPLH)
  3. Mapping of agricultural land contaminated by the coal mining sector – Dr Dyah Retno Panuju (Department of Soil Science and Land Resources, Faculty of Agriculture)
  4. Utilisation of microbial fuel cell for carbon emission reduction – Prof Dwi Andreas Santosa (Biotechnology Centre)
  5. Spatial analysis of greenhouse gas emissions in DKI Jakarta – Luisa Febrina Amalo (PPLH). (my/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
