Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria mentioned IPB University as the first campus in the world to take a policy for its students to take 17000 Micro Credential courses. This was expressed by the Rector during his speech at the IPB University Graduation Ceremony for Doctoral, Master, Bachelor and Diploma Education Programs Phase III Academic Year 2023/2024, 15/11. IPB University Graduation was held at Graha Widya Wisuda IPB.

“This year IPB university takes a policy for Undergraduate and Diploma Programs can take 17000 free micro credential accounts, please take 21 thousand courses to improve new skills. This is the first campus in the world to make this policy, the policy we do is so that we are responsive to change,” he said.

The speech of the Rector of IPB University was greeted by the applause of the invited participants of the graduates. The Rector of IPB University conveyed this in an effort to respond to changes that occurred in the world.

Prof Arif Satria said that what was delivered by the lecturer during the lecture only 66 percent remained relevant. Thus, students must continue to be learners and reskilling their abilities.

“One of the impacts of changes from the industrial revolution 4.0 is a change in skills, what lecturers teach in class this year and the next five years, when students graduate, there are one-third of skills that are no longer relevant,” said Prof. Arif Satria.

Therefore, he said, it could be that what was learned four years ago, six years ago only 66 percent is still relevant. This is part of the change, so it is important to be a learner and always reskilling.

Prof Arif Satria added that there are 97 thousand new jobs that will appear, but require new skills. The industry responds to changes by making its own competency certifications such as micro credentials. Call it Google and Microsoft, it is already running everywhere.

“IPB University’s rivals today are no longer fellow universities, but IPB University’s rivals are Google, online learning platforms, Udemy, LinkedIn, and IBM which organize micro credentials,” said Prof Arif Satria.

Prof Arif Satria advised the graduates to always be true learners by having a growth mindset. He also advised that graduates can get knowledge anywhere, not depending on the classroom. He said that someone who can survive, not the smartest or strongest, but who can survive is a learner who always responds to change.

Meanwhile, Vice chairman 2, DPP IPB University Alumni Association, Ir Ivan Kuntara conveyed his invitation to join the alumni association.
