IPB University PSL Study Program Holds Field Course for Doctoral Program Students
The Doctoral Program in the Natural Resources and Environmental Management Study Program (PSL), Postgraduate School (SPs) of IPB University held a field lecture as part of the course practice for the implementation of the theory that has been given for the management of natural resources and the environment (PSDAL). This activity was held on 17-19/11 in Solo and was attended by 31 students, 7 teaching lecturers, and 2 education staff (Tendik).
The Chairman of the Doctoral Program of PSL SPs IPB University, Prof Widiatmaka said that currently, the learning process in the lecture room is not sufficient, especially in seeing real conditions and finding cases in the field.
“This is very important considering that in the doctoral program, students are expected to understand, analyze, evaluate, and provide the best and sustainable solution to a problem based on scientific studies from the theory that has been received. In the end, field study activities are expected to be a provision in completing the final project,” he said.
“The scope of this field lecture activity includes studies following the PSL doctoral program courses, including environmental policy and management, economic valuation and biodiversity management, and ecotourism,” said Prof Widiatmaka.
Prof Widiatmaka added that this field study was also an integration activity across sustainable PSDAL management and institutional policy courses, hybrid methods of PSDAL management and valuation courses, as well as design and science complexity courses in PSDAL.
“This activity can be realized by looking directly at areas or places that have implemented PSDAL and a sustainable environment,” he added.
Prof Widiatmaka explained that the results of this field study in addition to knowledge of the course components are also part of strengthening the capacity of students and lecturers of the Doctoral Study Program of PSL SPs IPB University.
“This field study can be a lesson learned and best practices in evaluating the management of environmental problems and solutions that occur in the community. This activity is also a promotional event for the PSL SPs IPB University Doctoral Program to various agencies in various regions,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Prof Lina Karlinasari, Secretary of the PSL SPs Doctoral Program of IPB University explained that the scope of this field study was a visit to an area that had PSDAL issues.
“The purpose of this field study, first, is to implement theories and practices related to PSDAL in the field. Second, to increase insight and knowledge about sustainable PSDAL; and third, to increase familiarity between lecturers, students, and staff in the Doctoral Program of PSL SPs IPB University,” she said.
