IPB University Biotechnology SPs Study Program Invited Professors from Korea to Discuss Enzyme Biotechnology
The Biotechnology Study Program (Prodi) (BTK) Postgraduate School (SPs) IPB University held a general lecture presenting Prof Hyung Kwoun Kim from the Catholic University of Korea. Prof Hyung Kwoun Kim is a researcher who is currently focusing on research studies in the field of enzyme technology.
Chairman of the BTK Study Program, Prof Miftahudin, in his speech said that along with the development of science, especially in the field of biotechnology, his party now has a role to play in developing biotechnology in Indonesia.
“With the presence of Prof Hyung Kwoun Kim, we hope to increase the insight of BTK Study Program students and biotechnology observers in studying one of the popular studies in the fields of industrial biotechnology, health and food,” he said in front of 78 BTK Study Program students at the IPB University SPs Building, Dramaga Campus (16/11).
He explained that this material was a good example of how to present research results from basics to further applications. This will open up students’ knowledge in conducting research, especially when starting research that is based on theory and uses appropriate methodology. After that, you can collect the correct data and implement it as well as future prospects.
“We can see that the research presented is lipase enzyme technology that can be used to make plant-based ergosterol and applied to make flexible liposomes as a medium for carrying medicinal or cosmetic materials that can be applied to the skin,” he explained.
He added that in the future it is hoped that collaboration with the Catholic University of Korea will be possible, which was previously initiated by Prof Antonius Suwanto. Apart from that, BTK Study Program students can be interested either through joint supervision cooperation, short courses and others.
“The focus of this general lecture is one of the learning topics in the genetic engineering and bioprocess engineering courses in the BTK Study Program curriculum,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prof Antonius Suwanto, instructor of the genetic engineering course at the BTK Study Program, said that basically enzymes are an important and sustainable part of biotechnology. Therefore, understanding and understanding enzymes is very important for students.
“This enzyme is very expensive, that’s why we have to develop the technology in Indonesia and by bringing in expert speakers, it is hoped that BTK Study Program students will get direct exposure and gain good experience for their research,” he said. (HBL/Rz) (IAAS/YMK)
