Himagron IPB University Introduces Sprinkler Irrigation System to Youth in Bubulak Village
The implementation team of the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) of the Agronomy and Horticulture Student Association (Himagron), Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University implemented the Agrisena Ngariung #5 program. This time, the PPK Ormawa Himagron team introduced the sprinkler irrigation system in Bubulak Village, Bogor, West Java (29/10).
This activity is included in one of the programs brought by the Himagron Ormawa PPK, namely Sustainable Agriculture. In this activity, IPB University students introduced sprinkler irrigation systems, ranging from the types of sprinkler irrigation to direct installation practices.
“The application of sprinkler irrigation technology is expected to make it easier for farmers to irrigate the land. In addition, this activity aims to introduce technology-based agricultural systems applied in cultivated plants, especially sweet corn,” said Edi as the presenter of the sprinkler application practice.
The sprinkler irrigation system was applied to sweet corn fields as a pilot model for agricultural applications in Bubulak Village. Edi also revealed that this application must be adjusted to the existing human resources, the provision of tools, and sufficient financial resources.
“The application of sprinkler irrigation system in Bubulak is an initial investment for the implementation of smart agriculture in this neighborhood,” he added.
Edi said, the sprinkler irrigation system application in Bubulak Village uses the butterfly sprinkler type. The advantage of using butterfly sprinklers lies in the distribution of water that can come out evenly with small water droplets like rain. The application of this system is adjusted to the land area and the shape of the beds.
“The introduction of sprinkler irrigation, especially for youth, is very good to be held so that it can facilitate irrigation. It is hoped that this effort can increase the linkage of youth to explore the field of agriculture, so as to increase the regeneration of farmers,” he said.
In addition, said Edi, the application of sprinkler irrigation can open people’s insights into one of the applications of technology in agriculture. A simple model was designed and applied to broaden the community’s horizons, especially the youth of Bubulak Village that agriculture can be combined with the use of qualified technology.
The sprinkler application practice was continued with the installation of a pump in the irrigation source pond and the installation of pipes in the sweet corn cultivation field. Practices involving youth are one of the great hopes of the PPK Ormawa Himagron implementation team to create Bubulak Village as a learning center for regenerating farmers who are excel in agriculture.
“Through the practice of introducing sprinkler applications, it opens our minds as youth that agriculture is not only about farming, but also the application of technology. Hopefully, this can become our model for modelling in the future,” said Rafly, one of the youth in Bubulak Village. (*/Rz) (IAAS/NVA)
