In an effort to prepare before facing the competition stage, The 9th IMAC team of IPB Agria Swara Student Choir (PSM) held a pre-competition concert ‘Swara Nusa’. This concert was an important step for the team towards the international competition, the 34th Prague Cantat International Choir Competition.

The concert attended by the Czech Ambassador, Jaroslav Doleček, became an unforgettable moment. The presence of the Czech Ambassador also showed tremendous international support for Indonesian arts and culture.

Prof drh Deni Noviana, Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs stated that he fully supports Agria Swara’s spirit to work and excel in the international arena.

Swara Nusa, which means Suara Bangsa, defines that every Indonesian ethnicity has its own unique expression, sound and cultural heritage. The 18 songs performed represented various cultural backgrounds through singing and dancing in Raden Sirait’s fashion.

On this occasion, the chairperson of The 9th IMAC delegation, Sekarini Aksobya asked for blessings and support from the concert participants. “Thank you to all those who have supported the continuity of this concert and supported us at the choir competition in Prague, Czech Republic and the Cultural Concert in Vienna, Austria,” she said.

She said, the Agria Swara team consisting of IPB University community members and alumni, had shown extraordinary talent and dedication in their performance. This concert was a form of hard work and dedication to present the mesmerising beauty of harmony.

“Agria Swara brilliantly presents the richness of Indonesian culture through melodious strains and traditional dances. This is a tribute to the country’s diverse cultural heritage,” she explained.

The first half of the Swara Nusa concert opened with the joyful nuances of the song “Segalariak” in Basque language by Josu Elberdin, a Spanish composer, then the beauty of the famous rhyme and song, “Izar Ederrak”.  “Sumpah Pemuda” was sung with theatricality and passion, followed by “Die Himmel Erzählen Die Ehre Gottes,” “Mitten Wir Im Leben Sind,” and “Napadly Pisne”.

Then, “Daemon Irrepit Callidus” added a mysterious element, before closing with a heart-stirring tale of a famous legend thanks to the interpretation of Arvin Zeinullah’s pengaba, “Malin” which was successfully performed and received a standing ovation from the entire audience.

Furthermore, the second half of the Swara Nusa concert was filled with the beauty and richness of Indonesian culture through the singing of regional songs such as “Luk-luk Lumbu” from Banyuwangi with a sweet story of two people who captivate the heart, “Es Lilin” from West Java which is softly performed and brings sweet memories, “Wak-Wak Gung” which is a children’s game song from Betawi, “Hela Rotan” and “Sarinande” from Maluku, the fun game “Ampar-Ampar Pisang” from South Kalimantan, and the majestic song “Yamko Rambe Yamko” from Papua.

Not only that, participants were also taken on a tour of North Sumatra with the celebratory song to forget sadness “Lisoi”, and launched into a spiritual dimension with the mantra “Gayatri” from Bali. The event was closed with the song “Nyiur Hijau”, appreciation and the song “Hymne IPB” which was sung with all the audience present. (IAAS/RUM)
