The Advanced Research Laboratory (ARLab) unit in collaboration with the Biotech Center IPB University held a mycorrhiza training activity with the theme ‘Making Petri Dish Microcosms, Observation with Digital Microscopes and Morphological Characterization of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi’.

Petri Dish Microcosm is a simple technique to purify the culture of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (FMA) and observe the development of symbiosis over time. Chairman of the ARLab Unit of IPB University, Dr Irdika Mansur at the opening ceremony said that it opened opportunities for research cooperation.

He also introduced IPB University’s Featured Research Laboratory Unit to the participants. They came from 11 universities, the Indonesian Mycorrhiza Association, the Palm Oil Research Center and from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

“With the training chaired by Susan Irmayani, SSi, Educational Laboratory Officer at the Biotech Center and also at the ARLab Nano Imaging Laboratory, it is hoped that this FMA breeding technique can be applied by mycorrhiza researchers in Indonesia,” she explained.

In addition to the participants, Sofyan, SSi, MSi (Vice Chairman of ARLAb IPB University for Facilities and Resources), Dr Ricksy Prematuri (Chairman of Forest Biotechnology and Bioremediation Laboratory, Biotech Center), resource persons, and also representatives of microscope provider companies that supported this activity, namely PT Fajar Mas Murni and PT New Module International.
