Following the first Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) or Kick-off Meeting held in Jakarta in February, the 2nd SCM took place in Badung, Bali. This event occurred on 12-13/10. The event was also attended by stakeholders from 73 countries.

A member of the International Forestry Students Association Local Committee (IFSA LC), Fauzia Haini, represented IPB University at this event. As a student from the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Science, Fauzia was there to voice concerns and play a role in addressing water-related issues.

“The event provided valuable insights into decision-making processes. We were facilitated to think critically and engage in discussions on various topics. The International Secretariat for Water (ISW) supported us to be at the forefront and participate in activities related to water policy, clean water and sanitation provision, water management, and more,” explained Fauzia.

Continuing, Fauzia mentioned that through her participation in the 2nd SCM of the 10th World Water Forum, Fauzia had the opportunity to engage in direct discussions with individuals from various countries and establish relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

“As a forestry student with limited exposure to water-related issues, I gained extensive knowledge. During various discussion sessions, I emphasized that it’s not just humans who need water, but also nature and wildlife,” she concluded.

Basuki Hadimuljono, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, stated that the event discussed about ‘water justice’ globally, including water management on small islands and access to clean water for all.

“We mapped the interconnections between sub-themes, regions, and the three processes, planned further actions, designed the final outcomes for the forum, and prepared for follow-up actions,” said Basuki.

This meeting resulted in several commitments and action plans related to global water issues, which will be further discussed at the upcoming 10th World Water Forum in May 2024. (*/Lp) (IAAS/DSR)
