IPB University Students Create NEOLOF, a Fermenter for Liquid Organic Fertilizer and Ecoenzymes from Afkir Crystal Guava

IPB University students who are members of the Innovation from Student Creativity Program (PKM-PI) succeeded in creating the NEOLOF (Neglasari Liquid Organic Fermentor) innovation, namely a fermenter which has the function of being able to speed up the process of making liquid organic fertilizer.

This innovation began with the problem of accumulating discarded crystal guava waste that was not utilized in the Neglasari Village location, Bogor. Chairman of the Mukti Tani Jaya Farm Group, Kang Amay said, “There is a problem related to crystal guava waste that must be resolved. “The existence of NEOLOF will be very helpful in dealing with this rejected crystal guava waste.”

Veronica Conny Maggy, Chair of the PKM-PI Team, said that NEOLOF is a solution for farmers in processing rejected crystal guava into liquid organic fertilizer which has marketable value and can also be used for the farmers’ own cultivated plants.

“This fermenter innovation tool is equipped with a chopping machine and agitator which can simplify the mixing process. During the fermentation process, liquid organic fertilizer (POC) is stored in the drum. The fermentation process is controlled by a thermostat as a temperature setting located on the control panel. “The heater functions to maximize the fermentation process,” she said. She further said that this tool is still in the development process before being implemented to farmers.

Apart from creating innovative tools for POC, the PKM-PI Team also created another alternative for processing crystal guava waste, namely by processing crystal guava waste into ecoenzymes and their derivative products.
