IPB University Holds Good Laboratory Practice Workshop for Laboratory Assistants
IPB University held a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Workshop for laboratory assistants or Education Program Officers (PLP). The aim of this workshop is to provide knowledge in organizing tools and occupational safety and health (K3) in the laboratory.
Dr Irdika Mansur, Supervisor of PLP IPB University and Chairman of the Advanced Research Laboratory (ARLab), in his speech said that at ARLab IPB University there is currently a lot of sophisticated laboratory equipment that can be used together to increase knowledge.
“Every year IPB University carries out GLP and K3 activities. Security and safety in the laboratory is in your hands (laboratory). “This activity is very important and will be a program that will be implemented continuously,” he said.
Apart from that, currently IPB University is collaborating with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) to send 15 researchers and laboratory assistants to Korea every year. This collaboration will last until 2028.
“In 2024 we will send 15 people. “There are two things that must be prepared, namely English language skills and abilities which will be a requirement for selection,” he said.
Director of Human Resources, Dr Heti Mulyati, said that this GLP workshop was the first step for further training to be held until laboratory assistants could obtain competency certificates.
“We have collaborated with LinkedIn where we have 3,000 accounts for lecturers and education staff who will take part in training there. “You will be connected with other institutions in the same profession,” said Dr Heti.
She said the aim of this competency certificate was to increase enrichment, new knowledge and skills enriched by certified training could also expand networks.
“This workshop will be a requirement to be able to enter the laboratory and operate their respective labs and will be followed up by attending training. “Hopefully this activity will provide benefits and become an opportunity for friendship to increase knowledge,” she concluded.
The workshop material was provided by several resource persons. The first material regarding the introduction of good laboratory practice in general was delivered by Dr Rini Purnawati, S.TP, M.Si PLP Agricultural Industrial Engineering Study Program. She explained that GLP is an official guideline from certain institutions and is a regulation in several countries.
The second resource person, Sofyan, S.Si, M.Si delivered material regarding the rules for implementing GLP in the laboratory and an introduction to K3 in the chemistry laboratory. The third resource person, Bambang Hermawan, S.Bio, M.Si explained material related to an introduction to hazard identification, risk assessment and control (IBPRR). The final material was delivered by Eko Prasetyo, S.Pt, M.M. about the introduction of GLP and K3 in the field laboratory. (Lp/Rz) (IAAS/MFR)
