In innovating the MPR, IPB University Students Won Three Awards at UiTM Shah Alam Malaysia
Five IPB University students were able to bring home achievements at The 1st International Millennipreneur Innovation and Commercialisation Exhibition (IMInE) 2023 at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam Malaysia. The Maggot Precision Room (MPR) innovation that was carried, successfully led the IPB University team to get three awards: Silver Medal Award, Best Poster and 4th General Champion in the Environmental Safety cluster.
The five students were Muhammad Rizki Abdurrahman and Muhamad Dodi Bokasa (S1 Resource and Environmental Economics), and Moh Waldi Pratama, Halimah Dwi Yolanda and Fatih Ahmad Fauzan (S2 Tropical Marine Economics). They were mentored by Dr Novindra, IPB University lecturer at the ESL Department, Faculty of Economics and Management.
IMInE itself is a competition for students who have interest and innovation in the field of innovative creation entrepreneurship. This competition was attended by 196 teams from five countries namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Kazakhstan and Ghana. The categories in this competition are Environmental Safety, Healthy Lifestyle, Technology and Innovation, Food and Beverage, Services and Art and Creative Industries.
“Maggot Precision Room is a system designed to minimise food waste using black soldier fly (BSF) larvae. This tool is equipped with digital scales, heat lamps and cooling adapters connected to NodeMCU ESP8266,” said Rizki, one of the team members.
The device, he said, has been integrated with MPR Apps. The app has various service features such as MagzPickup (collection), MagzPartner (partnership), Mag+ (converting waste weight into e-money), MagzShop (sales) and MagzCare (report).
He added that the MPR innovation is expected to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) and climate change management (SDG 13).
“The MPR also has the potential to support the concept of blue economy by minimising household waste that dissolves in the river. Thus, the presence of MPR has a positive impact on marine biota and ecosystems,” he said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
