Himiteka IPB University Invites Bogor Community to Fight Plastic Pollution Through Seaphoria 2023 Activities
Seaphoria 2023 is a new initiative from the IPB University Marine Science and Technology Student Association (Himiteka). This activity succeeded in igniting the enthusiasm of the people of Bogor which was held on 15/10 at the Bogor City Square.
The 2023 Seaphoria activity carries a campaign with the theme “Fight Plastic Pollution, to Save Our Ocean” aimed at inviting the people of Bogor to take action against plastic waste in the ocean, which is a threat to marine ecosystems and various marine biota. Seaphoria 2023 also extends an invitation to the public to sign a petition aimed at fostering a sense of responsibility to protect Indonesia’s seas.
“The sea is the source of human life and the final destination of all processes originating from upstream areas. “However, awareness of marine conservation is still very lacking, as evidenced by the existence of non-degradable waste which not only disturbs marine life, but also poses an indirect threat to human health,” said Linsky, one of the participants.
Chair of Seaphoria 2023 Organizers, Riyansyah Ramdhan, hopes that this activity can spread the message of marine conservation and be the beginning of change.
“Let’s use this melody as inspiration for action. Protecting the environment should be more than just an obligation, but our calling. “Thank you, because together, we create harmony of goodness for the future of our seas,” said Riyansyah.
Head of the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Dr Syamsul Bahri Agus, appreciated the students’ creativity and enthusiasm in increasing public awareness to participate in maintaining and protecting the sustainability of the sea.
“The students’ courage in promoting awareness about the need to protect the sea is an inspiration for us all. “Thank you for being a voice that reminds us of our shared responsibility,” said Dr Syamsul.
