Collaborating with Chiba University, Department of ITK IPB University Ready to Launch Postgraduate Dual Degree Program soon
To improve the quality of education and international collaboration, the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University held a postgraduate dual degree program planning workshop with Chiba University, Japan. This workshop is part of the ‘World Class Professor 2023’ program which aims to enhance the reputation of a progressive and future-oriented institution.
The workshop was held to design and detail a postgraduate dual degree program in marine technology that will provide students with the opportunity to earn dual degrees from both universities.
Chairman of IPB University’s Marine Technology Doctoral Program, Prof Jonson Lumban Gaol stated that the collaboration with Chiba University is an important step towards developing a curriculum with international standards. He also emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge and experience between the two universities.
“We initiated this program so that in the future it can accommodate students to get courses in a wider range of fields and skills, especially the use of technology in marine, one of which is synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology,” said Prof Jonson.
Prof Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo, delegate of Chiba University, highlighted the value of this dual degree program in improving the quality of higher education in Indonesia. He welcomed this collaboration and hoped to see graduates from this program contribute positively to the development of the marine and fisheries sector in Indonesia.
“International educational collaboration in the field of remote sensing with academic and research institutions abroad will be able to accelerate the exchange of science and technology, and enrich the experience of students during their studies in higher education,” said a researcher from Chiba University.
In this workshop, participants actively discussed various aspects of dual degree programs, including curriculum, class schedules, admission criteria, and program management. The participants also shared their experiences and views on the importance of cross-cultural understanding in the context of higher education.
IPB University’s Director of International Education, Puji Mudiana, SP, MA stated that this collaboration will bring great benefits to students from both universities. “By sharing academic resources, we will create a more diverse and comprehensive learning environment. We hope this program will continue in the future,” she said.
The workshop is expected to produce a comprehensive framework for the marine technology postgraduate dual degree program. Furthermore, teams from both universities will work together to implement the program and open admissions soon. (RAT/Rz) (IAAS/TNY)
