Bogor City Government Invites IPB University SPs Summer Course Participants to Gala Dinner at Bogor City Hall
The Bogor City Government (Pemkot) invites participants of The 2nd International Summer Course Natural Resources and Environmental Management Science (ISCoNREM) to attend a Gala Dinner at Bogor City Hall. This activity also concludes a series of ISCoNREM 2023 activities initiated by the Master of Natural Resources and Environmental Management Study Program (Prodi) at the Postgraduate School (SPs) of IPB University.
Dr Syarifah Sofiah, Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Bogor City welcomed ISCoNREM participants who came from various countries such as the Philippines, Tanzania, Rwanda and of course Indonesia. At that moment, she said that the challenge in developing a region is how to combine traditional, cultural and economic aspects but also the environment which must be maintained.
“If we look at all existing cities, they will prioritize economic growth. They even sacrifice heritage buildings for the sake of economic growth. “That is a challenge for the Bogor City in carrying out arrangements while maintaining its identity,” she said.
Talking about identity, Dr Syarifah added, the Nogor City currently has three identities which are interconnected with each other, namely green city, smart city and heritage city.
“We can see that previously the Bogor City Square was a less organized area. “But now it has turned into a very beautiful open space with the 1881 Bogor Station heritage building in the background,” she added.
As a green city, Bogor City maintains its identity, such as the Bogor Botanical Gardens, building city parks and preserving large trees left over from the Dutch era. “We provide identification and insurance for trees that are decades old, even hundreds. “Apart from maintaining strength, it can also safeguard community activities,” she explained.
Apart from that, said Dr Syarifah, we also pay close attention to air quality in the Bogor City. One of them is structuring city transportation by converting three city transportation to one bus.
“We also made more pedestrians. “The goal is for people to get used to walking, apart from being healthy, it also keeps the environment pollution-free and clean,” she added.
Meanwhile, Prof Hadi Susilo Arifin, Chair of the PSL SPs IPB University Masters Study Program, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the Bogor City Regional Secretary at the gala dinner and at the same time at the closing of ISCoNREM 2023. Participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the activity until the end. He hopes that next year similar activities can be attended by more participants from various countries.
“During ISCoNREM 2023, participants have studied and visited various places such as Mulyaharja Agro Edu Tourism, Mulyaharja Women Farmers Group (KWT) Hydroponic in Gardening, Suryakencana Chinatown, Bogor Botanical Gardens, Gunung Walat University Forest and Situ Gunung Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park. “We hope that this can provide a significant contribution and ongoing collaboration for IPB University and activity participants,” he said.
