A total of 345 Archery Athletes Compete for National Championship at IPB Archery Open 2023

The enthusiasm of Indonesian archery athletes is burning again to welcome the National Indoor Competition IPB Archery Open (IAO). The national championship (kejurnas) initiated by the IPB University Archery Student Activity Unit (UKM) was again held offline (13-15/10) at the Gymnasium Building, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor.

IPB Archery Open 2023 was attended by 354 participants from various regions all over Indonesia. They will compete for winning the title in seven categories. The seven categories include U-12 National Standard, U-15 National Standard, General National Standard, Student Recurve, General Recurve, General Compound, and General Barebow.

“After three years of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, thank God, we are finally proud to be able to re-organize the IPB Archery Open indoor national championship offline again in 2023,” said Dr drh Mokhamad Fakhrul Ulum as the coach of UKM Archery IPB University.

The IAO 2023 National Championship was officially opened by the Director of Student Affairs, Dr Ujang Suwarna and symbolically by the coach of UKM Archery IPB University by releasing arrows. “Hopefully IPB Archery Open 2023 can increase the interest and enthusiasm of the younger generation in the non-academic field, which is able to form a strong character generation through talent development, especially in the field of archery,” said Dr Ujang.

Chief executive, Abdul Zumar said, “IPB Archery Open is a prestigious event that attracts archers from all over Indonesia. This championship aims to promote archery, develop competence, and become part of the journey and career development of archery athletes throughout Indonesia.”

He added that this event not only provides an opportunity for athletes to hone their skills and shine in the national arena, but also enriches the sports culture in Indonesia. IAO also enhances the image of IPB University as one of the leading educational centers in Indonesia that is able and continues to accommodate young talents to continue the glory of Indonesian archery.

“The history of the first indoor archery national championship in Indonesia was held in 1998 by UKM Archery IPB University and continues to be maintained until now. During the pandemic, this activity was carried out online. And, this year it was held offline again for the first time after the pandemic,” he said.

Agus Rahman, a representative of the Bogor Regency Branch of the Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani) in his remarks said, “Our thanks go to IPB University for taking part in fostering archery for the younger generation. The athletes can compete, hone their training results with other athletes so that they are more confident and increase their sharpness and more focus to face the future.”

Furthermore, the West Java Province Perpani Management, Rizal Barnadi added, “Through this championship it is hoped that talented athletes will emerge, superior seeds of archers who can later achieve higher achievements and make Indonesia proud in the world competition.”

IPB Archery Open 2023 participants come from various regions from seven provinces (Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, East Kalimantan, and West Nusa Tenggara), 48 clubs, 18 schools, and 9 universities. Universities that actively participated in this competition were University of Indonesia, IPB University, Diponegoro University, Jakarta State University, Telkom University, Padjadjaran University, Siliwangi University, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, and Esa Unggul University.
