The Directorate of Student Affairs (Ditmawa) at IPB University has partnered with the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI) and the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) to implement the Domestic Summer Youth Program. This program serves as training and mentoring for high school students who are awardees of the Indonesia Maju Scholarship (BIM) 2023.

“IPB University has the opportunity to be the organizer of this preparatory program aimed at nurturing the BIM 2023 batch 3 beneficiaries to become the most outstanding students. The objective of this program is to produce high-performing, adaptive, and creative human resources so that they can become accomplished and character-driven students adhering to the Pancasila principles,” said Assistant Director for Student Reputation and Achievement Development at the Directorate of Student Affairs IPB University, Dr Syaefudin.

The training encompasses academic skills, leadership, and cultural immersion. This program is developed within three study areas which are agriculture-forestry, biological science and environmental science with a total of 44 high school students who are BIM 2023 awardees from various schools across Indonesia.

The participants engage in a series of activities, including pre-orientation, orientation and campus tours, summer classes, academic development, leadership development, and cultural immersion. They also participate in supplementary activities such as observatory lab, cooking classes, field trips, and outbound activities, concluding with a graduation and farewell party. During the graduation ceremony, participants showcase their cultural performances.

“I’ve learned a lot here, one of which is culture. I’ve come to realize the richness of Indonesian culture and learned to adapt to the cultures of different regions. I’ve also learned about leadership, how to lead others and myself. Additionally, I’ve gained knowledge in academics, such as research methods, statistics and academic writing,” shared Rainaldy Wong, a student from SMAS ZIon in South Sulawesi, while participating in the Summer Youth Program.

“These three weeks have been an extraordinary experience. I had the opportunity to meet amazing friends and learn a lot from them. I believe that if Indonesia continues to organize events like this consistently, Indonesia Emas will belong to us,” expressed Adrian Benedictus Watratan from MAS Taruna Nusantara, Central Java during the Graduation and Farewell Party at the Andi Hakim Nasution Auditorium on the IPB Dramaga Campus.
