Rector Lays Out Five Strategic Agendas at IPB University’s 60th Age
The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria explained the five strategic agendas of IPB University after 60 years of this campus standing and empowering. This was conveyed in the opening ceremony of the 60th Anniversary of IPB University at Grha Widya Wisuda, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (1/9).
The five agendas are first, IPB University will lead food innovation and economic transformation of Indonesia as a middle-income country to grow fast through agro maritime industrialization 5.0. Second, IPB University will change from a national trendsetter to a global growth leader in the field of inclusive sustainable agro maritime.
“Third, IPB University leads the global-south higher education network to transform from resource-based to inclusive innovation-based sustainable development. Fourth, IPB University prepares young technopreneurs and sociopreneurs to drive rural transformation as a growth center. And finally, IPB University will carry out matchmaking of higher education systems with the agro maritime industry and creative communities,” he explained at the opening.
These five agendas, said Rector, were arranged to realize Indonesia’s economic projections in 2050-2075 which are predicted to be in the top four in the world after the United States, China, and India. To get there, Prof Arif emphasized the preparation of mature and systematic industrialization (reindustrialization) to contribute to a more resilient national economy.
“We need systematic steps to realize these predictions. The fact today is that we are experiencing a process of deindustrialization, indicated by the decline in the contribution of the industrial sector to the national economy from 21.57 percent in 2013 to 17.84 percent in 2022,” he explained.
Therefore, he suggested the concept of agro maritime 5.0 to become a pillar of Indonesia’s re-industrialization. By synergizing economic transformation and social transformation, this paradigm will produce national economic equality based on social strength. “The choice is agro maritime 5.0 because we expect Indonesia’s future industrialization structure to have a social structure that is by a society where the majority of the workforce is engaged in agriculture,” he said.
On the other hand, the main task of universities in realizing the reindustrialization framework is to create human resources (HR) and superior innovation based on sustainability and 4.0. “We have a vision as a techno-socio entrepreneurial university which is the face of IPB University as a university that excels in research and innovation. And now it is getting stronger with the support of the presence of Science Techno Park (STP) IPB University,” he explained.
As an implementation of sociopreneurship, IPB University has embraced rural areas through community service programs and social innovation. Until now, IPB University has fostered 4,398 villages (5.9 percent) in Indonesia. This step is none other than to realize food security and Indonesia’s economic strength.
“The urgency of agromaritime towards reindustrialization is very important because food security and agromaritime development are the keys to Indonesia’s transformation. This is also the strength of the national economy and Indonesia’s capital to lead the global-south,” he said. (MW/Rz) (IAAS/TNY)
