IPB University Invites Professor from The University of Tokyo to Discuss Sustainable Technology for Environmental Management
Directorate of Global Connectivity (DKG) and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SIL), Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta), IPB University held the 97th IPB Talks with the theme ‘Sustainable Technologies for Environmental Management’ in a hybrid manner at the Academic Senate Room, Dramaga Campus. The theme raised is now being intensely discussed around the world, along with climate change.
The event presented speakers Prof Masaru Mizoguchi from The University of Tokyo, Japan and Dr Ardiansyah from Jenderal Soedirman University. Prof Mizoguchi presented material on the remediation of agricultural land contaminated with radioactive cesium in Fukushima due to the devastating earthquake in Japan in 2011.
“Agricultural technology is needed to create new agriculture after the radioactive cesium contamination in Fukushima to bring farmers back to farming there,” said Prof Mizo, his nickname, during his presentation.
Meanwhile, Dr Ardiansyah presented an environmentally friendly alternative rice cultivation system known as the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). “This rice cultivation system is environmentally friendly because it saves water and produces lower emissions than conventional rice cultivation,” he said.
The event was dynamically hosted by Dr Riani from Sriwijaya University and host Dr Chusnul Arif from the SIL Department of IPB University. Online, the event was attended by around 70 participants who actively provided questions and responses.
The 97th IPB Talks is a series of World-Class Professor events in 2023 organized by the Directorate of Human Resources, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) RI. This program facilitates lecturers in Indonesia to interact with world-class institutions and professors. The goal is to improve the performance (research productivity) of academics and improve the ranking of universities towards the world’s best QS World University Ranking (WUR) 500.
“By inviting world-class professors from the University of Tokyo, hopefully cooperation with IPB University can be established in a sustainable manner. This activity is also expected to increase the publication of articles in international journals and improve the main performance indicators (KPI) of the institution,” concluded Dr Chusnul.
