IPB University Hosts The 2nd ECOGIV Annual Meeting, Inviting Delegates Across The Continent

The Department of Resource and Environmental Economics (ESL), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University hosted The 2nd ECOGIV Annual Meeting, 28/8.

Ecosystem-based management of coastal marine resources in Ghana, Indonesia and Vietnam (ECOGIV) is a collaborative research and education project with four institutions. The four institutions are Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics, The Arctic University of Norway (UiT); Faculty of Economics, Nha Trang University (NTU), Vietnam; Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University; School of Economics, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. The four institutions are all under the auspices of the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development phase II funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) for the period 2021-2026.

The general objective of the ECOGIV project is capacity development in higher education and research at three partner universities, namely NTU, IPB University and UCC. While the specific objectives are strengthening capacity related to economic competence of marine resources for partners in the southern continent, strengthening research and education systems through university partnerships in the north-south continent, developing an international PhD programme at NTU, joint research across continents, and gender mainstreaming through support for female academics (mentoring programme).

Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development, said that in line with ECOGIV’s objectives, IPB University has developed the concept of Agromaritime 4.0. He explained that the concept is a platform that provides direction in increasing the role of universities to provide solutions to national and global problems. Especially problems related to food security, poverty, environment, climate change, and infectious diseases.

Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik, Dean of FEM IPB University explained that he fully supports ECOGIV activities and is very open to further collaboration in the future.

“This Annual Meeting activity is a means to expand IPB University’s international network. This also opens up opportunities for IPB University to get phase III funding grants, considering that IPB University has a qualified human resource capacity in the field of fisheries resource economics and reliable academic facilities,” said Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik.

Head of Delegation and coordinator of ECOGIV, Prof Claire Armstrong appreciated the extraordinary welcome from IPB University. She also felt happy to be able to collaborate with a big campus like IPB University. She continued, “The doctoral students in this project are like pearls that need to be preserved for the success of ECOGIV,” she said.  (IAAS/MKY)
