Holding English Day Program, Himasiter IPB University Optimistic to Realize Smart Village Pillars
The Student Association of Animal Nutrition and Food (Himasiter) Faculty of Animal Sciences, IPB University, conducted an English Day program at SDN Sinarsari Bogor. This activity is one of a series of activities in the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa), which aims to improve children’s basic knowledge of English in order to realize Smart Village.
“As an international language, English is currently and in the future a mandatory skill that everyone must have. Moreover, in this era of globalization, we as a society are required to understand and apply English to support several things such as education, work, and others,” said Nurlita, chair of the Himasiter PPK Ormawa team.
Through this activity, she said, IPB University students tried to invite students of SDN Sinarsari to start liking and having an interest in learning English. Students were introduced to the alphabet and its pronunciation in English through songs. They were also given the opportunity to perform in front of the class while singing and guessing the pronunciation of the letters. “Everyone who dares to come forward will get a reward,” Nurlita added.
In addition, there is also ‘Listen and Color’ material that involves students in the activity of coloring flower parts according to the letters mentioned. Thus, they not only learn the art of coloring but also recognize objects in English according to the alphabet. Dodi Wahyudi, Chairman of Himasiter IPB University, said this activity must be routinely carried out to improve the abilities of children in Sinarsari Village.
