Himagreto IPB University Turns Plastic Waste into Pillow Cushions
The Agrometeorology Student Professional Association (Himagreto) Department of Geophysics and Meteorology (GFM) IPB University conducted training on making cushions made from plastic waste in Pulosari Village, Pangalengan District, Bandung Regency, 10/8. This training is part of the 2023 Meteorological Observation Study (STORM) activities.
The training in making cushions aims to answer the problem of waste, especially plastic waste which is abundant in Pulosari Village. This is because Pulosari Village is one of the tourist areas in Pangalengan District. The hope is that with this training, the residents of Pulosari Village can manage waste into products with economic value and as an effort to mitigate climate change.
Ghaly, an IPB University student and one of the organisers of the activity, said that it is hoped that this activity can continue to be developed. He also felt happy and grateful to be able to share his knowledge with the community who responded enthusiastically.
“The enthusiasm of the residents is one of the most striking points of this cushion making training activity. I am very grateful that we can share knowledge with various groups of residents and it is warmly welcomed. I really hope that everything that has been shared will not end here and will continue to experience sustainability,” said Ghaly, an IPB University student from the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology.
One of the training participants, Rina, said that the use of inorganic waste to make cushions was very interesting, especially since the manufacturing process is relatively simple with materials that are very easy to find and readily available. She said, considering that Pulosari village is now starting to become busy with tourist attractions, cushions have the potential to become an interesting souvenir. (SPT/ra) (IAAS/AMR).
