DKSRA IPB University Discusses Strategy for Development of Agromaritime 4.0 Concept
As one of the best universities in the Southeast Asia region in the field of agriculture and forestry, IPB University is expected to be able to provide solutions to global and local challenges, especially in the field of agriculture in a broad sense. This challenge is also an opportunity for IPB University to make a real contribution to agricultural development in Indonesia and the world, by responding to changes quickly and precisely with clear concepts.
Since 2018, IPB University has offered the Agromaritime 4.0 concept. As a living concept (a living document), Agromaritime 4.0 needs to continue to be updated, especially in responding to contemporary challenges that are changing so rapidly.
Therefore, the Directorate of Strategic Studies and Academic Reputation (DKSRA) IPB University held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme ‘Agromaritime 4.0: Reflections and Future Development Strategies’. The FGD took place in the Academic Senate Room, Andi Hakim Nasution Rectorate Building, IPB Dramaga Campus.
IPB University Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, said in his speech that Agromaritime 4.0 is IPB University’s contribution to national development. However, according to him, this concept needs to be discussed further to make it more holistic and contextual.
“It feels like even though we are thinking about 4.0 or 5.0, in reality we are still facing issues of poverty, agrarian issues, corruption, stunting and so on. “So there is still something we need to complete in our agromaritime concept to make it more holistic and contextual,” he said.
IPB University Professors delivered a number of material presentations regarding agromaritime concepts based on their scientific fields. Prof Arief Sabdo Yuwono in his material provided input on agromaritime concepts from the perspective of civil engineering and environmental science. He explained the actual challenges in the field, such as the problems faced in DKI Jakarta in the form of poor air quality and the need to manage urban landscapes and urban forests.
“IPB University must look at the entire industrial revolution 4.0, not just focus on the digital revolution. IPB University must be a player, not just an observer. “We must actively look for solutions to the impact of the industrial revolution 4.0,” added Prof Herry Purnomo. According to this IPB University Forest Management Expert, the agromaritime 4.0 concept needs to be created to ensure that the benefits of the industrial revolution 4.0 are distributed fairly.
Prof Ario Damar, speaker from the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) explained the importance of IPB University research and innovation in applying the Agromaritime 4.0 concept. He also emphasized the importance of synergy and cooperation from various scientific fields to be able to implement the agromaritime concept holistically.
The final speaker, Prof Aris Purwanto from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, IPB University, agreed with the same thing. He said that integrated innovation is needed so that it can answer current and future needs. This step is taken by selecting innovations that have technical and economic prospects that can be applied and are needed.
Several IPB University professors were also present as discussants to review the presentations given by the presenters. They are Prof Tajuddin Bantacut from the Department of Agricultural Industrial Technology, Prof Hariadi Kartodihardjo and Prof Sudarsono Soedomo from the Department of Forest Management. This activity was moderated by Dr Alfian Helmi, Assistant Director of Strategic Studies, Directorate of Strategic Studies and Academic Reputation, IPB University. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
