Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SIL), Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta) IPB University again held an international summer course with the theme ‘Sustainable Infrastructure and Built Environment’. This activity was carried out in a hybrid manner at the Cyber Center (CCF) Fateta, IPB Dramaga Campus.

In this international activity, 10 lecturers and practitioners were present as speakers from six countries. This activity also attracted 116 participants from five countries. Students involved can convert this activity equivalent to two-semester credit units (SKS).

Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof drh Deni Noviana officially opened the SIL 2023 Summer Course activities series. He said, “IPB University, as an international class university has committed to organizing quality international education programs. One of the implementations is by holding international summer course activities of this kind.”

In the opening ceremony, the Vice Dean of Fateta IPB University for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Feri Kusnandar, and Chairman of the SIL Department, Dr Erizal, were also present.

“The event, which is packaged attractively but still serious, is also an opportunity for students from various countries to exchange ideas and cultures. This activity aims to hone the participants’ abilities in identifying infrastructure and environmental sustainability problems and analyzing and making decisions in solving problems in the field of civil and environmental engineering,” said Dr Erizal.

In addition, participants will also be trained to adapt to changes in science, communicate effectively, establish networks, and apply the principles of professionalism in individual and team work.

Some of the activities in the SIL 2023 Summer Course that participants participated in included lectures, group discussions, writing papers, and making posters and presentations.

In order to unravel, identify, and find solutions related to various infrastructure and environmental sustainability issues, participants were also included in excursion activities. Four excursion locations were selected: Situ Suspension Bridge Sukabumi Mountain, Ciawi Dry Dam, Situ Gede Lake, and Bogor Botanical Gardens.

The ten speakers from six countries, both academics and practitioners, came from Batangas State University (Philippines), Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (Japan), Kantipur City College (Nepal), The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (Thailand), University of Nottingham (Malaysia), IPB University, PT Sika Indonesia and PT Teknindo Geosistem Unggul (Indonesia).

Meanwhile, there were 116 student participants from various universities in five countries. They came from Iloilo Science and Technology University (Philippines), Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam), Kantipur City College (Nepal), Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (Thailand), and a number of domestic universities.
