The Halal Science Center at IPB University Officially Becomes a Halal Training Institution
The Halal Science Center (HSC) at IPB University has been officially designated as a Halal Training Institution by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH) of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The HSC at IPB University is now registered with registration number 2304000002. This is marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement (PKS) regarding the Collaboration for Halal Auditor and Halal Supervisor Training between the HSC at IPB University and BPJPH, along with 12 other strategic partners.
According to the Halal Product Assurance Law No 33 of 2014, all food and beverage products produced and distributed in Indonesia must be halal certified by October 17th 2024. One crucial component for the successful implementation of this halal certification process is the availability of competent human resources as halal supervisors, halal slaughtering experts, and halal auditors.
The Secretary of the HSC at IPB University, Dr Noviyan Darmawan, stated that since 2018, they have been actively involved in developing curricula and conducting training related to halal. From 2019 to 2022, the HSC at IPB University has trained 875 halal supervisors both through regular and in-house programs, 474 halal slaughtering experts, and 15 halal auditors from various backgrounds such as companies (large, medium, small, and micro categories), universities, government, and independent entities.
“We express gratitude for the opportunity given to the HSC at IPB University to become one of the strategic partners of BPJPH in providing halal auditor and halal supervisor training. Our hope is that this collaboration can continue to progress and yield positive results for all involved in the halal ecosystem in Indonesia and around the world,” stated Dr Noviyan.
In addition to training, he continued, the HSC at IPB University also provides technical guidance services to assist businesses, especially micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in obtaining halal certificates. Moreover, the HSC at IPB University also functions as a Halal Production Process Support Institution (LP3H) for the implementation of self-declared halal certification for UMKM.
The Head of BPJPH, Dr Muhammad Aqil Irham conveyed that this collaboration is of strategic importance as a form of support and acceleration for the government’s program to improve the well-being of Muslims in Indonesia and achieve the goal of becoming the world’s largest halal product producer by 2024. He also expressed his hope that the strategic partners of BPJPH will not form competition but rather collaborate with each other.
“Thus, a new collaboration is established, and a strong relationship is formed to successfully achieve Indonesia’s government programs,” he emphasized. (*/Rz) (IAAS/DSR)
