IPB University had the opportunity to host the International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH) 2023 at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor (21/8). This event is a professional conference discussing the importance of rebuilding sustainable tourism by featuring international speakers from various countries.

The Organizer of ICRTH 2023, Prof Arzyana Sunkar, stated that it was a important moment for IPB University to host ICRTH 2023, as the vision and mission of ICRTH align with the ongoing development of tourism in Indonesia, particularly in Bogor.

“This conference also introduces Indonesia’s tourism, especially in the Bogor region, to the world. Delegates are expected to actively contribute to the concept of tourism for the community, covering aspects of knowledge, actions, and economics,” she explained.

Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, revealed that IPB University has declared itself a green campus as a dedication to sustainable campus development. Additionally, the university continues to support activities related to cultural development, energy efficiency improvement, and resource conservation.

“Our achievement lies in promoting the importance of a sustainable environment concept rich in biodiversity and culture. We have also established green transportation, green buildings, green energy, and green spaces at IPB University,” he said.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno, mentioned that Indonesia’s economy is currently in a prime state after the pandemic. This condition is primarily supported by the tourism sector and trade economy, showing a strong and stable recovery.

“Our economic challenge focuses on how we can enhance the economy in Indonesia. We encourage national branding through the ‘Proud of Indonesian Creations’ and ‘Proud to Travel in Indonesia’ national campaigns. Moving forward, the programs implemented must be targeted, beneficial, and timely. Indonesia’s economic recovery has already begun. However, now is the time to adapt to the new economic order in the digital era,” he stated.

According to Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Creative Industries of Sarawak Malaysia, the world is currently facing climate change challenges. The tourism industry must take responsibility in mitigating environmental challenges. In this conference, he explained that experts will discuss innovative green investments that can transform the tourism landscape to be environmentally friendly.

“In this discussion will also discussing about eco-friendly transportation, support for renewable energy usage, and mandates for waste reduction measures at various tourist locations. Our dedication to green investments aims to enjoy the results of a healthier and sustainable tourism sector born from responsible actions and practices,” he said.

Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya, added that this discussion strengthens Bogor’s vision as a city focused on sustainable tourism and economy. “After this COVID-19 pandemic is over, we are focusing on a rapid recovery and creating new potential tourist destinations that can be enjoyed by residents of Jakarta and its surrounding areas,” he said.
