IPB University held a ceremony to commemorate the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday (17/8) at the Rectorate Field, IPB Dramaga Campus. The ceremony was attended by IPB University residents starting from the organ leaders (Board of Trustees, Academic Senate, Council of Professors and Rector), other leaders, lecturers, education staff, students, and Agrianita. Also present were students participating in the Merdeka Student Exchange (PMM).

Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria invited the people of Indonesia to fill the independence by creating superior innovation.

“Let us fill this independence with superior innovations that can accelerate the nation’s transformation process to become a great nation in the world. I believe Indonesia will be victorious if we all have an optimistic mindset. Let’s work hard, let’s advance the nation,” he said.

On that occasion, he also read the text of the 78th Independence Day speech from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek), Nadiem Anwar Makarim.

“From our predecessors, we learn that independence is something that must be fought for. Indonesia’s independence was not gifted by foreigners, but it was fought for with all our body and soul,” he said, reading out the text of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology’s speech.

He added, “The struggle is continued today with Merdeka Belajar which has been driven for the past four years. Merdeka Belajar must also be driven by all levels of society with a spirit of cooperation.”

“With the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, our students and educators have now felt freedom in learning and teaching,” he added.

In the speech, Prof Arif Satria said that at the higher education level, Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) programs have also succeeded in changing the lives of more than 760 thousand students.

“Our struggle in mobilizing Merdeka Belajar in the last four years has increasingly shown the importance of cooperation to realize independence in the education system in Indonesia. Let’s continue the spirit of our predecessors to always move simultaneously to realize Merdeka Belajar,” he said. (Lp/Rz) (IAAS/TNY)
