One of the Favorite Study Programs at IPB University Welcomes New Students

The Nutritional Science Study Program (Prodi) of the Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University held a curriculum socialization in the event of Welcoming New Students for the Odd Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year at the GMSK Auditorium, Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) (15/8). IPB University’s Nutrition Science Study Program is one of the favorite study programs chosen by prospective new students every year. The socialization was attended by new students of doctoral programs, master of nutrition science and dietisien professional education.

Dr Sofyan Sjaf, Dean of Fema IPB University conveyed that Nutrition Science Study Program is the right choice for new students because IPB University is one of the best universities, nationally and internationally. He hopes that new students can get quality learning and explore the knowledge of lecturers, experts on campus.

“The current stunting issue really needs the touch of scientists, including nutrition program students to realize zero stunting in Indonesia. We hope that students in the Nutrition Science Study Program can solve the problems that have become a national agenda by producing research, thus making a real contribution to Indonesia,” he added.

“Our vision is to become a nutrition department that excels at the global level to improve the quality of life that is healthy, smart, productive in a sustainable manner,” said Prof Katrin Roosita, Chairperson of the Department of Public Nutrition at IPB University.

Meanwhile, she continued, the mission of the Department of Public Nutrition of IPB University is to organize quality higher education in the field of nutrition and develop environmentally friendly science, technology and art(ipteks) through cutting-edge research in the field of nutrition. “Our mission is also to apply and utilize science and technology in the field of nutrition through community service to achieve a healthy, intelligent, productive quality of life in a sustainable manner.

Meanwhile, Dr Rimbawan, Chairperson of the Nutrition Science Study Program of IPB University said that currently the Nutrition Science Study Program both doctoral and master programs have been accredited ‘Excellent’ from the Association of Indonesian Health Higher Education Self-Accreditation Institutions (LAM-PTKes).

“The journey of the master program began in 1986 and the doctoral program in 1994 under the name of Community Nutrition and Family Resources (GMSK). Since 2015, both the master’s and doctoral programs have been named Nutrition Science,” said Dr Rimbawan.

In the beginning, the educational background of both master’s and doctoral programs of new students was quite diverse. Among them are nutrition science, food technology, biology, veterinary medicine, medicine, culinary, public health to biology, chemistry and sports education. However, in the last three years the educational background of new students has been narrowed down to only graduates of nutrition, food, medical and public health sciences. “This is to produce quality graduates,” he concluded.
