The role of career and effective leadership is now considered very important in achieving organisational success. It is undeniable that the current business world is increasingly experiencing a close blend between these two elements.

Realising this, IPB University students who are members of Pondok Inspirasi invited psychologist experts and the well-known leadership community Pemimpin.Id to organise a Leadership and Career Talkshow at Soka Innovation Lab, Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta.

Soka Innovation Lab (Soka iLab) is a platform for young people to formulate innovations in various fields for impactful action. Soka iLab is also supported by PT Paragon Technology and Innovation, which has the determination to grow together for benefits.

The Leadership and Career Talkshow featured Sri Wahyuningsih, Deputy Executive Director 2 of Finance and Organisation at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and Aswin Januarsjaf, Virtual and Intelligence Assessment from PT Global Talentlytica Indonesia. The activity was conducted in a hybrid way through the Pondasi Official YouTube channel. More than 20 communities and institutions attended offline and online.

“A career is a person’s professional journey and professions can also change. Initially it may be an office worker, over time it changes, it can happen. You can say that when someone chooses to study, it may not match their interests and talents. Measuring strengths and the environment is important in undergoing a career,” said Sri during the talk show session.

Sri also explained that a leader must have three powers in leading. The first is legal power, where the leader can legally make decisions and give orders that must be followed by team members. Second, power based on the knowledge, skills and expertise of a leader in their field, known as expert power.

“And third, social power, which is the ability of a leader to influence others through interpersonal relationships and social connections. It is important to remember that effective leadership power does not only focus on one type of power, but is a combination of various aspects of leadership that complement each other,” he continued.

Not only his experience in the world of career and leadership, Aswin Januarsjaf as a psychologist expert also explained the importance of psychological tests in the world of work selection.

“Psychological tests are sometimes synonymous with tests where the results are passed and not passed. But actually, the psychological test is an assessment in the psychological examination of prospective employees. This psychological test is conducted not only to see the ability, but also to see the invisible aspects such as self awareness that prospective employees have,” Aswin explained.

Also present was Tanty Mantily Dewi, Talent Advisor of PT Paragon Technology and Innovation and coach of Pondok Inspirasi. She invited the young generation to remain enthusiastic and believe in their potential to achieve success in the future.

“It was very informative and provided great insight into leadership and career. I became more confident and ready to face the career world,” said Muhammad Zulhamsyah, a student of IPB University when giving his impression after the event. (*/Rz) (IAAAS/RUM)
