IPB University Coffee School is Back
IPB University through the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) held the 2023 Coffee School at the Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP), Bogor. This time the IPB Univeristy Coffee School was attended by 20 participants from students of various faculties of undergraduate and vocational programs.
The Coffee School is included in the Agromaritime Sociopreneur Academy program which was held from 1-4 August 2023. This program was created in collaboration with Sembrani Coffee as a facilitator. Founder of Sembrani Coffee, Septian is also an alumnus of the first cohort of Coffee School participants.
“This activity aims to increase insight and entrepreneurial spirit for students who have an interest in coffee,” said Dr. Supriyanto, S.T.P., M.Kom, Assistant Director of Agromaritime Services and Digital Farming, DPMA IPB University
On the first day of Coffee School (1/8), students got to know various species of coffee from various regions, including Garut, Bandung, and Lampung. The coffee recognition process was carried out by testing each taste of coffee through the aroma of dry and wet coffee, physical quality tests, and taste sensitivity tests. A triangulation test was also carried out to strengthen the participants in distinguishing between Arabica, Robusta, and Liberika coffee. Students receive modules and worksheets during the Coffee School to help them better understand the basics of coffee.
The participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the Coffee School. Nazaf, one of the participants from the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH), Faculty of Agriculture stated, “It is very extraordinary and rare for me to be able to attend the Coffee School. Mentors are also very helpful in getting to know coffee from the ground up.” According to him, the various activity sessions on the first day always give a new impression that he has never attended, let alone in lectures.
