Ecologica PSL IPB University Holds Anniversary Celebration from the Coastal Area
The Postgraduate Student Association of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSL) IPB University or Ecologica held a social action in commemoration of the 78th Independence Day (HUT) of the Republic of Indonesia. This activity involved 21 representatives of master and doctoral students of PSL IPB University which was held in Tidung Island Village, Thousand Islands, DKI Jakarta.
“The agenda began with the socialization of the importance of coastal resources such as seagrass, mangroves, and coral reefs carried out at SMKN 61 Jakarta which was enthusiastically followed by all students. In addition, a ranking 1 competition with the theme of environmental preservation was held for students of SMPN 241 Jakarta which was lively,” said Septa Riadi, the public relations officer.
At the same time, he continued, a coloring competition was also held for students of SDN Pulau Tidung 03 Pagi with the theme of the beach environment. From this activity, students can express their art through pictures and colors.
In remembrance of Indonesia as a maritime nation, Ecologica PSL IPB University conducted the Indonesian Independence Day Celebration Ceremony on the beach of Tidung Kecil Island which was followed by all participants with wisdom. After the ceremony, participants continued the activity by planting 500 mangrove trees. This aims to maintain the coastline from sea wave abrasion.
“The activity continued with beach cleanup. Dozens of garbage sacks were filled with various types of garbage both from visitors and those carried by sea currents,” Septa added.
While the beach cleanup was going on, some of the other participants were mapping the resources around tidung island, especially the seagrass ecosystem, mangrove ecosystem, and the fauna of tidung island, especially birds. This mapping will help policymakers to determine the sustainability of Tidung Island in the future.
Chairman of Ecologica IPB University, Gde Oka Widiyavedanta stated, “This activity is a form of devotion of PSL IPB University students to the motherland in order to celebrate the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the practice of the tri dharma of higher education and the vision and mission of Ecologica. We hope it can bring a positive impact to the people of Tidung Island and the tourists and visitors.”
The chief organizer, Ishlahul Fikri, hopes that this activity will become a routine activity for next year’s Ecologica management.
