Dean of Fema IPB University Inaugurates Toga Conservation Centre Initiated by PPK Ormawa Himasiera
Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) IPB University, Dr Sofyan Sjaf inaugurated the Family Medicinal Plants (Toga) Conservation Centre initiated by the Student Organisation Capacity Strengthening Program Team (PPK Ormawa) of the Student Association of Communication Sciences and Community Development (Himasiera) IPB University.
“This is one of the outputs that must be owned by every student, this greenhouse is one of the proofs. I hope other students can do and produce the same output,” he said.
The Toga Conservation Centre is located in RT 4 RW 1 Neglasari Village, Bogor, West Java in the form of a greenhouse. The greenhouse contains dozens of local toga seeds such as temu lawak, temu kunci, binahong and several other types. The toga seeds came from the people of Neglasari Village and IPB University’s Tropical Biopharmaca Study Centre. Later, in addition to being conserved, this toga will be distributed to representatives of residents from each RW of Neglasari Village to be planted in their homes.
Chairman of the PPK Ormawa Himasiera, Fauzan Naufal Raksanagara explained that the planting media used in the Toga Plant Conservation Centre is made from a mixture of surrounding soil, burnt husks and compost made by students using goat manure owned by residents of RW 1 Neglasari Village.
“In the future, the Women Farmers Group (KWT) of Neglasari Village is expected to be able to produce their own agricultural facilities ranging from manure, firewood to liquid organic fertiliser which has its own economic value,” said Fauzan.
In addition to serving as a conservation site, the greenhouse is also used as a place for toga learning for the people of Neglasari Village. The material to be learned about toga starts from seeding, planting, care, harvesting to marketing.
“With the inauguration of the greenhouse as a Toga Conservation Centre, it is hoped that it can help the Neglasari Village community to optimise the existing potential, so as to have a positive impact, both in the economic and health fields,” he said.
The inauguration was also attended by stakeholders such as Neglasari Village Secretary Kosasih Irfan, Education Commission of the Department of Science Communication and Community Development (SKPM) Dr Dyah Retna Puspita as well as cadres and representatives of residents from each RW.
