As an effort to increase public awareness of waste management, IPB University Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) Innovation students in Sukakerti Village, Cisalak District, Subang Regency, West Java conduct a visit to the Subang Regency Environmental Service (DLH). The purpose of this visit is to cooperate by inviting DLH as a speaker at the waste socialization event to be held in Sukakerti Village.

In a conversation with Irwan Wibawa ST, MM as the Chief of the Garbage, Waste, Toxic and Hazardous Material Management Division (Kabid PSLB3) DLH Subang Regency, it was revealed that the waste problem currently being faced is a change in people's mindset in disposing of waste. "We need to change people's comprehension from simply disposing of waste in its place to sorting waste in its place," said Irwan.

Furthermore, IPB University KKN-T  Innovation students continued their visit to the waste bank located behind the DLH building. Students had the opportunity to discuss with one of the waste bank administrators, Meri, who was on picket duty at that time. Meri explained that opening a waste bank can be done anywhere with the condition that it has adequate land or a place to accommodate waste and has a structured organizational structure from the village community.

Meri added, "Opening a waste bank will provide great benefits. First, the environment will be free from scattered waste. Second, the community can earn additional income by collecting household waste and selling it to the waste bank."

“However, in the view of the residents of Sukakerti Village, the waste bank is still considered an ordinary garbage disposal site. Therefore, IPB University KKN-T Innovation students hope that with direct socialization by DLH about waste management, people's views and understanding can change," said Hotmansoh Gajah Manik, one of the KKN-T  Innovation students.

In the planned socialization event, the DLH Subang Regency will provide an in-depth explanation of waste management, waste bank management and the importance of changing behaviour in viewing waste.

"KKN-T Innovation students and residents of Sukakerti Village are very enthusiastic about the event. It is hoped that this will improve waste management in Sukakerti Village for the better. We hope that this step can contribute to advancing waste management and creating a cleaner and healthier environment," he said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
