PT Unilever Tbk, in collaboration with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK), Faculty of Human Ecology, is implementing a Training of Trainer (ToT) program for the Royco Nutrimenu Serbu Harapan. This activity was carried out as one of the efforts to increase the capacity of cadres, so that they can play an optimal role in preventing and handling stunting.

The Royco Nutrimenu Serbu Harapan program was developed as educational material for families with children aged 6-24 months (the first 1000 days of life). The goals include understanding issues related to balanced nutrition according to recommendations and visualization of 'My Plate', having skills in processing complementary foods for ASI (MPASI) for optimal growth and development of children, knowing and understanding the dangers and prevention of stunting and tips on becoming a counselor for cadres.

"Kaders are an important and strategic mover in society to assist the government in suppressing the problem of stunting. In their role in preventing stunting, cadres are at the forefront of the community because they can see directly the condition of toddlers in the field," said Dr Tin Herawati, as the chief executive of the activity.

Dr Tin, who is also Chairperson of the Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK) Department ofIPB University, added that cadres also play a role as boosters, motivators, instructors and counsellors, especially for mothers who have toddlers in an effort to increase awareness and knowledge, resulting in better behaviour changes. "Therefore, cadres must have sufficient knowledge so that technical tasks in the field with the community can be carried out properly," she continued.

Good capacity of cadres, she said, is an important capital in improving the performance of cadres, especially in assisting the prevention and treatment of stunting. The results showed that cadres who had received training had a major contribution in preventing and treating stunting because cadres became more skilled in counselling and monitoring the nutritional status of toddlers.

At the Training of Trainer (ToT), MPASI processing practices were also held. The ToT was attended by 100 cadres from 10 urban villages in West Bogor District, Bogor City. Furthermore, each cadre will educate and accompany 10 families with children aged 6-24 months, so that it is estimated that the number of families assisted is around 1,000 families.

The resource persons involved in the ToT activities were Prof Dodik Briawan and Dr Ikeu Ekayanti from the Community Nutrition Department, Dr Tin Herawati and Dr Yulina Eva Riany from the IKK Department, and M Salahudin Hakim, a representative from PT Unilever Tbk.

"By increasing the capacity of cadres through the Royco Nutrimenu Serbu Harapan ToT Program, we hope to increase the knowledge and skills of cadres so that their performance in the field will be better. Especially in helping the prevention and treatment of stunting, especially in the city of Bogor," hoped Dr Tin.

Dr Tin emphasised that efforts to prevent and treat stunting certainly need the cooperation of penta helix actors, namely the government (political power), academics (knowledge power), community (social power), mass media (connection power) and the business world. "As part of the penta helix actor, IPB University strives to produce innovation and knowledge for handling and preventing stunting through tridharma activities, namely education, research and community service," he concluded.
