The Management Department of IPB University and Canberra Business School Signed a Collaboration Commitment

In order to enhance international cooperation, the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University is actively exploring and initiating collaboration with various universities abroad. One of the collaborations that will be carried out is with the Canberra Business School, University of Canberra, Australia.

The agreement to cooperate was then formalized by signing a Letter of Intent from both parties (15/6). Furthermore, this can be improved in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) after several collaborative activities have been carried out on an ongoing basis.

Accompanied by the Education and Culture Attaché (Atdikbud) of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Canberra, Prof Mukhamad Najib, the delegation from the Management Department of IPB University consisted of Dr Eko Ruddy Cahyadi as Head of the Postgraduate Study Program (Prodi) in Management Science, Prof Mamun Sarma, Dr Anggraini Sukmawati, Dr Budi Purwanto and Hardiana Widyastuti, S.Hut, MM.

While the team from the University of Canberra consisted of Prof Geoff Crisp as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof Lorne Cummings as Head of Canberra Business School, Prof Jennifer Loh as The Associate Dean for Research, and Prof Raechel Johns from the School of Management.

Dr Eko Ruddy conveyed some of the desired goals of the collaboration between the Management Department of IPB University and the Canberra Business School, University of Canberra. The desired cooperation includes student exchanges and lecturer exchanges, including the intention to open a double degree program at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.

“On this occasion it was also discussed the possibility of having joint supervisors when students conduct research and thesis writing, as well as joint seminars between IPB University and University of Canberra students. The two universities agreed to cooperate in the fields of education and research,” said Dr Eko.

The implementation of the collaboration will start from what is most likely to be done in the near future, such as inviting lecturers to teach online, initiating joint research, writing joint scientific journals, and joint seminars.

Atdikbud at the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Prof Mukhamad Najib said that international cooperation has now become a necessity, including for the Management Department of IPB University. The Government of Indonesia, in this case the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) strongly supports the collaboration between the Management Department of IPB University and Canberra Business School, University of Canberra. According to Atdikbud Najib, this collaboration will provide benefits, both for the two universities and for lecturers and students.

“From the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, we continue to work on increasing cooperation between universities in Indonesia and Australia. We always try to support and facilitate universities in Indonesia who are serious about building collaborations with universities in Australia and vice versa. Therefore, we are happy to assist the Management Department of IPB University to be able to sign a cooperation commitment with Canberra Business School, University of Canberra, “explained Dr Najib.

Deputy Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Prof Geoff Crisp expressed his appreciation for the intention of the Management Department of IPB University to work together with the Canberra Business School. Prof Geoff revealed that collaboration can be carried out across disciplines, considering that IPB University is very strong in the fields of Agriculture, Forestry and the Environment. An understanding of the environment, according to him, will enrich a more comprehensive perspective of business and management students.

“Currently the world is very concerned about sustainability issues, including in the business sector. Therefore, management and business students really need to understand environmental issues. IPB University’s reputation in the fields of agriculture, forestry and the environment is very important to strengthen the competence of management and business students,” explained Prof Geoff.
