A total of 329 animal health inspectors and qurbani meat were released by the Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof drh Deni Noviana. Hundreds of officers consist of lecturers and students from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science (SKHB) both undergraduate, veterinary professional program (PPDH) and postgraduate. The release was held in SKHB Room A, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor, (23/6).

Prof drh Deni Noviana conveyed, in order to welcome Eid al-Adha 1444 H, IPB University provided an opportunity for students to go to the field with the assignment area covering Bogor City and Regency, Depok City, and DKI Jakarta.

"This will train students' abilities. The knowledge gained on campus is enough. They will learn communication skills, help the community to ensure that the slaughtering process is done properly, the meat is handled properly, and the quality of the meat is good. That is the main goal (of qurbani), we want the slaughtered to be good," said Prof Deni.

Meanwhile, Dean of SKHB IPB University, Dr drh Amrozi said that every year, his party sends academicians to become animal health inspectors and sacrificial meat to areas in need. This activity is also the biggest service activity agenda carried out by SKHB IPB University to the community.

"Since the activity was first carried out in 1993, the inspection of sacrificial animals has received a positive response from the community. Not only that, students are also very enthusiastic. This is an extraordinary response," he said.

Dr Amrozi also appreciated this activity because it can have a good impact on society. This activity is also a place to introduce the veterinary profession.

"SKHB IPB University has equipped the inspectors with material enrichment on animal welfare, meat handling and soft skills improvement in antemortem and postmortem examination (before and after animal death)," he explained.

Through these various trainings, he hopes that the animal health and sacrificial meat inspectors from SKHB IPB University are ready to become catalysts in organizing healthy, halal, blessed sacrifices and not become a party for disease transmission.

Drh Herwin, chairman of the committee, said that animal health surveillance and sacrificial meat were carried out to monitor infectious animal diseases and zoonotic diseases (diseases that can naturally spread to humans or vice versa), as well as to ensure the safety and quality of meat to be consumed by the public.

"Although Indonesia is currently facing an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD), lumpy skin disease (LSD), and vigilance against peste de petits ruminants (PPR), but with layered supervision and the participation of veterinarians, findings of sick sacrificial animals are rare," he concluded.

SKHB IPB University also offers free webinars that can be attended by the public. The webinar will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 on the SKHB Official YouTube channel by presenting expert speakers from various parties.

"We are greatly helped by the SKHB IPB University students who jumped in to help the community in checking the health of qurbani animals and meat in preparation for Eid al-Adha 1444 H," said drh Renova Ida Siahaan, MSi from the DKI Jakarta Department of Marine Food Security and Agriculture.
