Statistics and Data Science Academics from 10 Campuses Gather at IPB University

For two full days (5-6/6) the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB University held a hybrid National Seminar on Statistics and Data Science 2023. This activity was held with the support of the Indonesian Statisticians Association (ISI), the Forum for Higher Education in Statistics (Forstat) Region IV and the Statistical Corner of IPB University.

There were at least ten universities involved in the seminar activities. The seminar presenters were all undergraduate students from IPB University, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology, Sumatera Institute of Technology, Syiah Kuala University, Jember University, Sebelas Maret University, Islamic University of Indonesia and Muhammadiyah Semarang Institute of Statistics and Business Technology. There were also guest speakers from the University of Indonesia and Bandung Islamic University.

“The main purpose of this activity is to provide a forum for students and lecturers to share their research results in the field of statistical methodology development and data science and its application,” said Akbar Rizki, MSi, chairman of the organizing committee during the activity at the Common Class Room (CCR) Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor.

The IPB University lecturer from the Department of Statistics also conveyed the importance of this event in an effort to continue to foster enthusiasm for the development of statistics and data science in accordance with the seminar theme, ‘Statistics and Data Science as Drivers of Sustainable Innovation’.

Chairman of Forstat, Dr Yudhie Andriyana appreciated this activity. He also gave full support to activities that involve cooperation between universities so as to further strengthen the relationship that has been established so far. The event itself was opened by the Dean of FMIPA IPB University, Dr Berry Juliandi.

During the seminar, forty papers were presented and discussed intensively. Papers and non-papers participants seemed enthusiastic about the various topics presented with applications in various fields. Not only that, on the sidelines of scientific activities, the participants were also presented with various performances that presented artistic talents owned by students of the IPB University Statistics and Data Science Study Program.
