International Forestry Students’ Association Local Committee (IFSA LC) IPB University and Forest Management Students’ Club (FMSC) collaborated to hold English training activities. This is useful as preparation for scholarships abroad, working abroad or with multinational companies and other post-campus life. This activity is called EYES ‘Enhance Your English Skill’. The event, which was attended by more than 250 IPB University students, was held for two weeks with several activities.

This activity began with a seminar which was attended by Prita Setya Maharani, MHum, English Literature Lecturer at Pakuan Bogor University and Danang Ari Raditya, SHut, MSi, Forestry Manager of IKEA Supply AG (Indonesia Office) as speakers. The two speakers discussed the importance of English in study and work life. Prita and Danang also shared tips and tricks for learning English, especially for students, as well as information on various English preparation tests.

“In learning English, we don’t only emphasize grammar, but also pay more attention to our fluency in speaking. Because what we do is communicate. The most important thing is to practice together, with anyone and anytime,” said Prita.

Still in EYES activities, there is Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) training by Leader English. In this training, the participants practice working on questions, practice speaking and listening. In addition, there is also an essay competition that motivates participants to practice their writing skills.

After attending the training, all participants had the opportunity to take the TOEFL Prediction Test online and attend Curriculum Vitae (CV) training and interviews. This material is conveyed in a casual way through live interview demonstrations.

“The EYES activity was very helpful in improving my English skills. The learning process was fun and it gave me the courage to speak English even though I still have limitations in understanding grammar,” said Alifa, one of the EYES participants. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
