IPB University and USFS-IP Review Documents for the Implementation of DKI Jakarta Urban Forest Management
Recently, a Document Review for the Implementation of DKI Jakarta Urban Forest Management was carried out. This activity is a follow-up to the research collaboration between IPB University and the second phase of the United States Forest Service International Programs (USFS-IP) for 2022/2023.
The management documents reviewed are research outputs that are planned to become a guide for DKI Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Service (Distamhut) in organizing urban forest landscape management activities in a systematic manner.
“The purpose of this activity is to provide views, input, suggestions, information and material sharpening of the document in supporting the improvement of management performance in urban forest landscapes and also for improving urban landscape services,” explained Dr Kaswanto, as the research coordinator lecturer from the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture.
This activity is fully supported by the Directorate of Global Connectivity (DKG) IPB University. Dr Azis Boing Sitanggang as Assistant Director of Global Connectivity IPB University in the field of International Program Services said, “IPB University really supports collaborative research with USFS which involves students and lecturers, moreover being able to provide extraordinary benefits for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the wider community.”
Yoga Harityas, USFS-IP Indonesia representative also attended this activity. According to him, the existence of this document is to offer a systematic urban forest management that can be accepted by implementers, both at the agency level and the level of workers in the field.
“In addition to paying attention to ecological aspects, urban forest management should also pay attention to social and economic aspects so that multiple use forest management occurs, which is able to balance ecological, social and economic aspects. This is also the main focus of USFS in developing urban forest landscape management,” he said.
Reviewers for the activity consisted of Prof Lina Karlinasari, Dr Yudi Setiawan, Fifi Gus Dwiyanti, Dr Fitri Rahmafitria, Dr Mohammad Zaini Dahlan, Dr Erianto Indra Putra and Dr Rachmad Hermawan. The invited reviewers are based on their expertise related to enrichment in draft urban forest management documents, such as forestry science, forestry ecology, silviculture, landscape ecology, and also tourism landscapes.
“The DKI Jakarta Urban Forest Management Guidelines are a practical guide that makes it easier for the DKI Provincial Government to maintain and develop urban forest landscapes. This guideline can also serve as a guide for other local governments and the community in encouraging the improvement of the quality of green open spaces in urban landscapes,” hoped Dr Fitri Rahmafitria, as one of the reviewers.
