The Department of Fishing Management and Technology (PSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Office carried out Technical Guidance (Bimtek) to fishermen in Cilincing, North Jakarta, and Panggang Island and Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu.

The activity presented three resource persons namely Prof Mohammad Imron, Prof Mulyono, and Dr Fis Purwangka who are IPB University lecturers from the PSP Department of IPB University.

The technical guidance activity in Cilincing was attended by the Deputy Head of Cilincing Sub-District, the Head of Cilincing Urban Village, and the Head of North Jakarta Fisheries and Marine Department. The technical guidance activity on Panggang Island was attended by the Deputy Head of the North Thousand Islands Sub-District, the Head of the Panggang Island Urban Village, and the Head of the Thousand Islands Fisheries and Marine Service Tribe.

The technical guidance material provided to fishermen includes correct and environmentally friendly resource management, work safety at sea, and socialization of environmentally friendly fishing gear based on the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation (Permen KP) Number 71 of 2016 and Permen KP Number 18 of 2021 concerning Placement of Fishing Gear, Fishing Aids and Practice of Making Environmentally Friendly Fishing Gear. The fishing gear made includes campus nets, crab nets, bubu, and fishing rods that are environmentally friendly.

The training also introduced squid attractors as a means for squid to spawn and fish houses or fish apartments as well as reinforcing FADs. The fishermen who attended the training were very enthusiastic and interested in applying the technical guidance material and commitment to maintaining water conditions so that fish resources remain sustainable.

“The use of environmentally friendly fishing gear to catch fish in the waters of DKI Province is currently highly recommended. This is to maintain the availability of sustainable fish resource stocks and remain sustainable,” said Prof Dr Gunawan.

The training also taught how to operate fishing gear so that the condition of fish resources in the waters remains sustainable. (IAAS/TNY)
