Two Young Lecturers of IPB University Vocational School Again Successfully Received SEARCA Grants

Two young lecturers of the Vocational School of IPB University again succeeded in getting a research grant from The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) in The UC Seed Fund Collaborative Research Grant program. The IPB University lecturers are Dr Leonard Dharmawan (Lecturer of Communication Study Program) and Dr Beata Ratnawati (Lecturer of Environmental Engineering and Management Study Program).

The research was chaired by Dr Leonard Dharmawan and collaborated with lecturers and researchers from Brawijaya University and Sumbawa University of Technology (UTS). This research is entitled 'The Challenges of Implementing Social Forestry Policies in Malang Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia'. This latest research period will be carried out from June 1, 2023 - May 31, 2024 and the total research grant obtained is worth 5,000 USD.

Previously, in 2022 both of them also won the same grant through research with the title 'Comparative of Greenhouse Gases Effects from Agricultural Activities in Bogor and Sumbawa'.

The UC seed Fund Collaborative Research Grant, is a research grant program provided by SEARCA, by providing funding of 5,000 USD, for research topics in the fields of sustainable management of natural resource systems, food and agriculture policy, biotechnology in agriculture, food and health, information and communication technology, bioinformatics, and data management in agriculture.

"The research team will conduct research related to the challenges of social forestry policy implementation in Malang District. The Social Forestry Forest Management Permit (IPHPS) is a central government policy to overcome forest management problems in state-owned production forests," said Dr Leonard Dharmawan.

He said social forestry aims to rehabilitate forests and improve community welfare by providing legal access for management. Through IPHPS, local communities, through forest farmer groups, are given access to manage forests.

In full, the members of this research consisted of Dr Beata Ratnawati (lecturer at IPB University Vocational School, expert in environmental engineering and management; Nurul Amri Komarudin, S.Si., M.Si., and Yuni Yolanda, S.Pi., M.
Si., both lecturers at UTS Environmental Engineering and experts in environmental policy and natural resource and environmental management respectively.

Other members are Chairul Anam Afgani, STP., MP., a lecturer in Agricultural Product Technology and expert in food microbiology, Rifqi Rahmat Hidayatullah, S.Hut, M.Si, Erekso Hadiwijoyo, S.Hut, MSi and Ir Mokhamad Asyief Khasan Budiman, S.Hut, M.Si. All three are lecturers at Brawijaya University and experts in forest management and social forestry. (*/Rz) (IAAS/NVA)
