IPB University received a visit from the Dept of Veterinary Services Sarawak Malaysia, (4/5). This activity initiated the cooperation between the two parties in the field of education (International Class) and research. Also present was Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Sarawak. 

Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof drh Deni Noviana warmly welcomed the presence of Dept Veterinary Services Sarawak Malaysia. He said, the visit to IPB University was the right choice. 

"IPB University was established in 1963. Currently, IPB is home to more than 27,000 students, 1,500 faculty members and 1,500 staff and also for IPB University alumni," he said when receiving the visit at IPB Dramaga Campus.

In addition, he continued, the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB) which became one of the visited destinations has a long history with Malaysian students. Since the 1970s, many Malaysian students came to IPB University to get a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree and continued to veterinary professional education to pursue the title of Veterinarian.

"IPB University excels not only in agriculture, but also in a wider range of fields. Such as veterinary medicine, animal sciences, fisheries and marine, forestry, economics, human ecology and business school," he said.

In his presentation, Prof Deni also said, in line with the idea of one health, IPB University also established the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, along with the international vision of IPB University, it is also strengthening international education.

"Based on QS World University Ranking, IPB University is the best in Southeast Asia in agriculture and forestry. We are confident that our education has met international standards. At least 14 study programs have been internationally accredited and more than 10 other study programs are in the process," said Prof Deni.

On the same occasion, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Sarawak said, 1963 was the year with the independence of Sarawak Malaysia.

"Like the year IPB University was founded, Sarawak Malaysia became independent from the state of Strava in 1963. That is why we call it Ms 63," he explained.

"The farming community in Malaysia today is practically still very subsistence, so we must improve this. To do that, the policies must be appropriate. Thus, we can see the results of the efforts made," he said. (Ns/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
