IPB University Becomes Host of National Training Stage III International Olympiad in Informatics 2023
The Baranangsiang IPB Campus became the venue for the 3rd phase of national training (Pelatnas) to prepare for the 2023 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The training was held from 15 to 28 May 2023.
One of the supervisors of the Indonesian Computer Olympiad Team (TOKI), Dr Mushthofa said, IPB University was assigned by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) to host the 3rd phase of Pelatnas for candidate participant of 2023 IOI which will be held in August 2023 at Hungary.
“As a training location, we provide a computer laboratory at the ICT Center, IPB Baranangsiang Campus. Computer laboratory facilities, networks and other infrastructure needs are provided by the Institute for Information Management and Digital Transformation (LMITD) IPB University,” he explained.
Dr Mushthofa added, this training provides advanced competitive programming material and trains computational problem solving skills by using various algorithms, data structures and heuristics to solve computational problems.
“Participants are given materials on algorithms and advanced data structures as well as various problem solving methods such as complete search techniques, greedy, dynamic programming, graph and tree representation and others. The practice questions given are questions at the level of the International Computer Olympiad (IOI) and other similar competitions,” he said.
He further conveyed, the syllabus, materials and practice questions as well as selection were prepared under the direction of the TOKI supervisors with the assistance of the Scientific Committee (Scientific Committee) of the TOKI Alumni.
In addition, these training participants also took part online as representatives of Indonesia in the 2023 Asia Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) competition organized by China and participated by various countries in Asia Pacific.
“Our hope is that this national training can equip participants with strong problem solving abilities and skills to be able to compete in international competitions and at the same time select the four best students out of 14 participants to represent Indonesia at IOI later,” he hoped.
He also hopes that this kind of activity can increase the awareness and motivation of Indonesia’s young generation regarding the importance of mastering technology, especially informatics. This is for the progress of the nation and state and to increase the competitiveness of the nation’s children in the international arena.
The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is an international computer Olympiad which is held annually. IOI is one of the five world-class science olympiads. The Olympics are held in a different country every year. Last year, Indonesia had the honor to host IOI. (IAAS/YMK)
