Discussing the Ornamental Fish and Aquascape Business, FPIK IPB University Students Invite Business Without Fear

The Aquaculture Student Association (Himakua) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University in collaboration with the IPB Community Aquascape (AIC) held the World of Exotic Fish and Aquascape (WEFA) 2023 (20-21/05). This activity reviews various helpful information about ornamental fish and aquascapes, as well as tricks and tips for starting a business without fear. 

Resty Naufal from Ondo Fish Farm, an alumnus of IPB University from the Department of Aquaculture (BDP) FPIK at that moment reviewed one of the problems at the beginning of business implementation. He stated that there are more important and sustainable things at the beginning of the entrepreneurial period, which are experience, branding and adaptability to market desires. 

"Failure will indeed be difficult to accept, especially without a safety net that will keep us from bankruptcy. However, these things are benefits that cannot be measured at a price," he explained during the event that took place at the Sumardi Sastrakusumah Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor.

According to him, managing more than one type of business is a form of safety net that will support a wide source of income. The starting point from the lecture period will also improve business welfare through a foundation that is built over time.

"The process of trial and error is inevitable. However, later this will be the basis for forming a business branding, "he continued. 

In addition, he continued, the use of the sharing economy system and the latest technology can also be applied to reduce business and excess funds that will be spent when starting a new business. The development of technology in the form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT has become increasingly powerful and is a supporting tool widely used in business improvisation. 

"The three main axes of sales in the modern era are now centered on search engine optimization (SEO), marketplace and social media creative content. This process will expand branding opportunities, even to the general public. Product introduction through hobbyist community groups will also increase business potential with the right target," added the chief executive officer (CEO) of these two different-segmented commodity supply chains.

On the other hand, another IPB University alumnus, Marcelinus from Aquaflame Fish Farm said, expansion into a broader realm can be done over time. "Starting everything off small but definitely is okay too," he said.

He believes that aspects such as production efficiency, increasing sales and exploring business strategies will evolve with experience. "Accountability for what we start is more important and it will be more difficult for us instead of chasing the needs of the market," he said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/ANF)
