Collaboration between BEM Fema and UKM IGAF IPB University, Swapping Garbage for Takjil

The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) and the Indonesian Green Action Forum (IGAF) Student Activity Unit (UKM) of IPB University are collaborating in the ‘Spill Fair’ movement program, namely swapping waste for takjil. The activity took place at the Innovation Park, Dramaga Campus, some time ago.
Fatima Auliya Zahra, Head of the Ministry of Environment BEM Fema IPB University said, this activity is a form of contribution to efforts to protect the environment. Later, the rewards offered in the form of takjil are considered very appropriate with the conditions and situations in the month of Ramadan.
“The fight against waste, which often pollutes the environment, must be carried out jointly and integrated into a shared responsibility movement. The aim of this program is to increase awareness of student concern for the environment and reduce waste and other environmental problems,” said Fatima.
She explained that the types of waste that can be exchanged include plastic bottles, paper, cloth, cardboard and other waste that can be recycled. The trash can be exchanged for free food and drinks, namely fried foods and iced tea for breaking the fast. In addition, they also get reusable cutlery.
“This method is quite effective because it is an act of cleaning up trash in the surrounding environment. This program was also greeted with great enthusiasm. In just about 2 hours, more than 50 visitors came carrying lots of garbage bags with quite heavy scales,” she said.
Not only that, continued Fatima, her party also provides provisions for bringing your own drinking bottles and places to eat as a form of movement to reduce the use of plastic. This is expected to foster the habit of limiting the use of various plastic containers in everyday life.
“This is a small contribution, but has a big impact on the environment. We hope that students will be aware of the importance of the environment. Apart from that, this step is a place for mutual sharing and momentum to seek blessings from the beauty of the holy month of Ramadan,” added Azriel Fariza, Head of UKM IGAF IPB University.
He said the collected waste would then be weighed and sorted by the committee. Then all the waste will be managed properly and wisely, both for useable goods and handicrafts and allocated to waste recycling sites. In the end, the waste can provide added value to society if it is well organized. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
