‘Botani’ Brand Officially Registered at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, LKST IPB University Gives Royalties to 10 Innovators
Institution for Science and Technology Park (LKST) IPB University gave royalties to 10 innovators. The granting of royalties was given directly to the researchers by the Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, Head of LKST, Prof Erika Budiarti Laconi and Inspector General (Irjen) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), Ir Razilu MSi at Taman Kencana Campus, (5/4).
On that occasion, IPB University officially obtained the trademark 'Botani' from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. Prof. Erika said, IPB University's innovation will soon use the 'Botani' trademark.
"Congratulations to the innovators receiving royalties. I am happy every year to be able to distribute royalties, as a contribution of IPB University through innovators who have been able to work with the community," said Prof Erika.
Prof Erika said, as many as 48 percent of IPB University's innovations have been collaborated. According to her, this is part of the community's expectation that IPB University is present and plays a role. "LKST IPB University will continue to facilitate innovators with their works so that they can be felt by the community," she added.
Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, said that his team would continue to encourage massive downstreaming. The target is that innovators can enjoy royalties from each of their works. "IPB University will try to be transparent, no matter how small, the royalties must be given. Our dream, in the future, is to be like the Samsonite company, thanks to its innovation, Samsonite only has to sell licenses," he concluded.
He emphasized that innovative products must really be a necessity for the community. In addition, the orientation of the innovation is not only domestic needs, but can also become a player in the global realm.
On the other hand, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ir Razilu, MSi appreciated IPB University for giving royalties to inventors. According to him, this step has been a thought for a long time. "How can researchers or inventors be motivated to produce works that are beneficial to society," he said.
"IPB University is extraordinary. This moment should be an example for other universities. In the future, the producers of patents or plant varieties or other intellectual property can be given royalties," he added.
Regarding the Botany brand, he thinks that this is what is expected from universities. He hopes that all universities have ventures or business fields.
"IPB University has started it. Currently, IPB University is also among the top ten brand applicants from universities in Indonesia. Approximately 59 brands have been submitted, 39 of which have been registered and the rest are still in process," said Razilu. (dh/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
