PSB IPB University Monitoring The Locations of Landslide Disaster in South Bogor City
Head of the Center for Disaster Studies (PSB) IPB University, Dr Doni Yusri, on Wednesday (15/3) directly inspected the Landslide Disaster location in South Bogor, West Java. There are two landslide locations, around Batutulis Station and in the Empang Village, South Bogor District.
During the inspection of the location in the Empang Village, Dr Doni had the opportunity to see the process of evacuating the victims who were still buried in the landslide. There is at least one prayer room and three residents' houses buried. According to the information obtained, apart from the two dead victims, there were still four people who had not been found during the evacuation process.
Heavy rainfall at the previous day was the cause of this landslide disaster. From the data collected by the PSB IPB University Quick Response team, the community around the location was not realize these landslide. According to them, the rain a few days before was not as great as a few months ago. This is not perceived as a serious threat.
Responding to this, Dr Doni urged the public to continue to be vigilant with potential disasters that may occur. "If you look at the studies conducted by PSB IPB University regarding the risk of disaster events, Bogor City is dominated by wet hydrometeorological disasters. Therefore, people still have to be cautious.”
According to him, awareness of the dangers of disasters from the surrounding environment needs to be increased. This early warning system for hydrometeorological hazards should be carried out more intensively by the city government through related agencies. "Information on disaster-prone locations or areas in Bogor City must be intensified," said Dr Doni.
He said, messages through various information channels, even such as social media, can be used to provide information and awareness about disaster hazards and vulnerable locations to the public, without exception where they live.
"PSB IPB University is ready to collaborate with the Government of Bogor City and Bogor Regency to have joint programs and activities so that an early warning system can be implemented to avoid casualties," concluded Dr Doni. (*/Rz) (IAAS/HAP)
