Japanese Students and IPB University Participate in SUIJI 2023, Implement a Community Service Program in Bogor
IPB University participated in the SUIJI-SLP (Six University Invitation Japan Indonesia Service Learning Program) activity. The activity was carried out in Cibulao Village, Cikoneng Village and Rawa Gede Village, Tugu Utara Village, Cisarua District, Bogor Regency (28/2-8/3).
This year’s SUIJI is packaged in the form of community service activities in each village. Students are expected to be able to learn directly with the local community to carry out useful and sustainable programs. This activity was attended by 30 IPB University’s students and 10 Japanese students from Ehime University, Kagawa University and Kochi University.
The activity began at Telaga Saat with the agenda of introducing a tea plantation which belongs to the company PT The Ciliwung. This introductory activity was guided by Sukirman as the manager of PT The Ciliwung and was attended by all SUIJI students and representatives of the Institute for Research and Community Empowerment (LPPM) IPB University. Furthermore, SUIJI students were mobilized to each place where they participated in community service programs with the local community.
Each team made a presentation to explain the program they would do. During this activity, students will live with local residents to get to know the potential and find solutions to problems in their area.
“This service activity must be carried out in collaboration with the community. We also didn’t have too many programs either, because our time is short. A successful program is when the community asks us to come back to their place,” said one of the student supervisors in Kampung Rawa Gede, Dr Yannefri Bakhtiar.
Apart from carrying out the program in each village, there are also activities that all students participate in. The activity was in the form of an introduction to tea cultivation and processing as well as an introduction to and processing of coffee which was centered in Cibulao Village. Furthermore, SUIJI students will present the results of the program they are implementing. (HA/Zul) (IAAS/DSR)
