One of IPB University's students, Elif Ivana Hendastari, had a unique way to fill her ngabuburit time by participating in mangrove planting and coastal clean up activities with Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) students. This activity was initiated by Sahabat Laut Indonesia (SLI) in collaboration with JIS. It took place at Mangrove Nature Park (TWA), Angke, North Jakarta, (25/3).

Elif, who is an IPB University student from the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), participated in accompanying JIS students. A total of 17 JIS students who are members of the Laut Indah Club JIS participated in this activity.

He said, the activity began with planting mangrove seedlings of Rizhopora sp. The planting location is a former fish pond and is now freed for mangrove planting.

"Ngabuburit is exciting, fun and useful. Doing mangrove care movement and clean up. Rarely do school children take the initiative to do activities like this," said Elif who is also a member of SLI.

After the planting activity, it was continued with the action of cleaning up garbage stuck in the roots of mangroves. Then the activity was closed with a quiz and giving some merchandise from SLI.

"Hopefully, there would be more young people who care about the environment, both for the forest and coastal and marine areas. Hopefully, JIS friends, especially the Laut Indah Club JIS, can be pioneers," Elif added. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
